What's happening around the Department
 Porter Lectures - Dr. Artur Avila of the CNRS (Université Paris) and Instituto Nacional de Matematica Pura e Aplicada (Rio de Janeiro) has accepted our invitation to give the 2009-2010 Milton Brockett Porter Lectures the week of February 15-19, 2010. The abstracts of the talks will be posted on the Special Events page (to the right).
Wolfe Lecture - Dr. Scott Sheffield (MIT) will be giving the 2009-2010 Wolfe Lecture on Thursday March 18, 2010 at 4pm in Herman Brown 227. The Special Events page (to the right) will post the abstract when it becomes available.
Danijela Damjanovic - Damjanovic joined the Department this fall as an assistant professor. Details about her can be found in a Rice News article on mentoring programs here.
Raymond Johnson (PhD, 1969) - Rice's first black student has returned to the Department as a professor this fall. The story of his time at Rice and the reason for his return is covered by the Rice News here.
Duncan Achievement Award for Outstanding Faculty - We are pleased (and proud) to announce that Professor Brendan Hassett has won the 2009 Charles Duncan Jr. Award which honors achievement in both scholarship and teaching. An article with the details can be found here. He also became our new Chair on July 1.
